I signed up for the 7-day trial of Media Mogul Me without researching it because it was offered through a get-paid-to-fill-out-surveys site, which I assumed screens its clients for scam artists. Maybe not.

After signing up, I received the following email, which contained an automatically-generated user name and password (which I have hidden.)

I clicked on the link, which took me to http://awalago.itsviable.com/login.php. I attempted to login, but my username & password didn’t work. I just kept getting bounced back to the login page.
That’s when I decided to research Awalago and Media Mogul Me. There’s not much to find yet, but what I did find wasn’t good. Several people had signed up through different awards sites (not because they wanted to join Media Mogul Me, just earn points from another site for doing so) and had never gotten an email telling them how to login. Well, I had the email but couldn’t login anyway.
So I tried calling the customer service number, and just as I’d read on one website, after a mail voice answers, and a bit of hold music, a female voice says all reps are busy and to call back in an hour. I then get hung up on. Um, not a good way to inspire confidence in the legitimacy of a company. But I kept redialing, and was finally connected with Apple. I explained that the login info I’d received didn’t work. She said I needed to sign in at Awalago.com, and when I said I’d tried that, she put me on hold and attempted to login with my info. She then came back on and said it didn’t work for her either, and so she would forward my complaint. I didn’t quite catch who she was going to forward it to, since I had trouble understanding her accent. She said it would take 24 hours for me to get access.

Before I hung up, I pointed out to her that the website http://awalago.com is misleading because it states “Try it Risk-Free for 10 Days” and then in the fine print below says the test-drive is only 7 days. Apple quite snottily said she would also forward that comment. (Update: I see that they have since corrected this error.)

After hanging up, I found this Rip-Off Report, which made me nervous about having extra charges put on my credit card, and, combined with the troubles I’d already gone through, decided to just call back and cancel. This time the female voice had a different message before hanging up; something about having trouble with their system and to call back in an hour. After redialing several times, I got through to Geno. He tried to dissuade me from cancelling, saying that they put a $29.95 pre-authorization charge on my card just to verify there were enough funds to cover the subscription, but that it would be refunded if I cancelled prior to the 7 day trial period. He said I had several days left in my trial period.

I still insisted on cancelling since I couldn’t access the website. He then gave me a cancellation# and soon after hanging up, I received a cancellation email:

I’m confidant that’s the end of this fiasco.

I certainly don’t recommend Media Mogul Me or Awalago, since 1) they are vague about exactly what you’ll get for payment, 2) their website contradicts itself as to how long the trial period is, and 3) thus far it doesn’t appear that anyone has ever actually succeeded in logging in once joining.
